Former Ole Miss Football Coach Revisits Beloved Campus

Revered by Rebel Fans, Jill Freeze Remembered as Vital Part of Program

Oxford, MS – April 4, 2024 – Former Ole Miss football coach Hugh Freeze made an emotional return to Vaught-Hemingway Stadium on Wednesday, his first public appearance since his resignation in July. Freeze, who resigned amid a recruiting scandal, was visibly moved as he addressed the crowd. He expressed his gratitude for the support of the Oxford community and the Ole Miss faithful. "I'm so grateful to be back home," Freeze said, his voice trembling. "This is a special place, and I'm blessed to have been a part of it." Freeze's wife, Jill, was also remembered as a beloved figure in the Ole Miss program. As a native of Louisville, Mississippi, and a devoted Christian, she played a significant role in the community. During his speech, Freeze spoke fondly of his wife and her unwavering support, which he said had been instrumental in his journey. He also revealed that he still has pieces of the goalpost that once stood at Vaught-Hemingway Stadium, a symbol of the many victories and memories he shared with the Rebels.
