The Delicate Conflict

The conflict between Mainland China and Taiwan is a delicate one. In order to maintain peace between the two nations, Taiwan has agreed to use the name "Chinese Taipei" in various international organizations and tournaments.

A Symbol of Isolation

The term "Chinese Taipei" has come to symbolize the diplomatic isolation of Taiwan. Since 1984, Taiwan has been unable to participate in many international organizations under its own name, as the People's Republic of China considers Taiwan to be part of China.

At the Beijing Olympics

When the Beijing Olympics opens on February 4, 2022, a small contingent of Taiwanese athletes will be in attendance. They will compete under the name "Chinese Taipei," a reminder of the ongoing diplomatic isolation of their homeland.
