How to Fix Missing Drivers After Installing Windows 7 on Acer Aspire

Device Manager Shows Unknown Devices

After installing Windows 7 on an Acer Aspire laptop, you may encounter missing drivers, resulting in unknown devices in Device Manager. This issue can be resolved by following these steps:

Install Latest Intel Drivers

Use the Intel Driver Update utility to search for and install the latest drivers for your device. This software can automatically detect compatible drivers, saving you time and effort.

Disable Fast Startup

In the power settings, disable the "Fast Startup" option. This can help resolve issues with some drivers loading properly.

Run powercfg -h off command

Open a Command Prompt window (cmd) with administrator privileges and type the following command: powercfg -h off

Hotfix for W7 64-bit

If no W7 32-bit driver is available for your device, switch to W7 64-bit and install the following hotfix: KB2971864

Check Hardware IDs

In Device Manager, double-click the unknown device and select "Details." Look for the "Hardware Ids" property to identify the specific device.

Search for Generic Drivers

You can try installing generic drivers from the Windows Update catalog or from the manufacturer's website. Search using the hardware IDs obtained in the previous step.

Contact Acer Support

If you are unable to resolve the issue using the above steps, contact Acer support with your device model and the hardware IDs of the unknown devices.
